【Exhibition Introduction】
The Villa Yurinso, constructed in 1928 as the second house and the guest house of an industrialist Ohara Magosaburo (1880-1943), a founder of the Ohara Museum of Art. This famous building, which has Eastern and Western architectural styles, with distinctive beautiful green roof tiles, is a masterpiece that combines several talented the skills including one of Yakushiji Kazue (1884-1965), who also architected the main gallery of our museum.

Originally, Magosaburo planned to build the house to create a space where he could enjoy spending time with his family in contrast to the Ohara family’s main residence, an open-plan townhouse, because he was concerned about his wife Sueko (1883-1930), who was sickly. Regrettably, Sueko passed away two years after Yurinso was built, but it is certain that Magosaburo’s affection for his wife created this house.

This exhibition features the works about “family” from the Ohara Museum of Art’s collection. We hope you will enjoy the expression related to the family by each artist in the Yurinso dedicated to a family.
